Alphonse Ouimette
BIOGRAPHY
A late bloomer in the world of short track speed skating, Alphonse Ouimette made his much anticipated World Cup debut during the 2019-2020 season at age 24.
Born in Spencerville, just outside of Ottawa, Ouimette represented Ontario at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, where he led his team to silver in the men’s relay. At age 16, he relocated to Toronto to pursuit both sport and educational goals. He followed that up with a year training at the Olympic Oval in Salt Lake City, before returning to join the Canadian Regional Training Centre in Montreal – and eventually the national team program – where he has been working on his craft since 2014.
Ouimette made his World Cup debut in Dresden near the end of the 2019-2020 season, where he skated in both 1500m races. With his appearance at the World Cup, he became the first Ontario-born skater to compete on the international circuit for Canada since the 2016-2017 season.
