Courtney Sarault

BIOGRAPHY

In only a few years, Courtney Sarault has gone from a highly decorated junior skater to one of Canada’s most consistent international podium threats.

Sarault’s impressive junior career saw her win four medals over the course of three World Junior Championship appearances from 2017 to 2019. She was crowned vice-champion in 2018, and due to a change in the competition format, will be the last Canadian ever to earn that distinction.

Since joining the World Cup circuit to kick off the 2018-2019 season, Sarault has been one of the country’s most successful female skaters, earning five individual distance medals, along with six in the women’s and mixed gender relays. She also finished third overall at the 2019 Four Continents Championships, earning silver in the 1000m and bronze in the 500m.

Sarault made history at the 2021 World Championship, where at the age of 20 she won silver in the 1500m and bronze in the 1000m, which helped her claim the title of vice-champion. In doing so, she became only the second New Brunswick native and sixth Canadian from outside Quebec to reach the overall podium at the event.

Sarault was named Speed Skating Canada’s short track Rising Star in 2018 and was the recipient of the
Nathalie Lambert Award for Female Short Track Athlete of the Year in 2021, becoming only the fourth skater from outside Quebec to take home the top honour.

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she grew up around winter sports as the daughter of former NHL player Yves Sarault.
