Heather McLean

BIOGRAPHY

A native of Winnipeg, Heather McLean began skating at age two and has been a sprinter with Canada’s long track national team since 2013.

A gold medalist at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, McLean made her World Cup debut during the 2013-2014 season and has been representing Canada on the international stage ever since. Her breakout season was in 2015-2016, where she captured three bronze medals in the 500m and one in the Team Sprint. She has earned a total of six World Cup medals over the course of her career, while also earning silver at the 2019 World Championships in the Team Sprint.

McLean made her Olympic debut at PyeongChang 2018, finishing 14th in the 500m and 25th in the 1000m. While PyeongChang 2018 may have been her first Games as a skater, she served as a forerunner at Vancouver 2010, skating around the Richmond Olympic Oval to test the timing system before each event.

McLean was crowned champion of the prestigious De Zilveren Bal in 2016, a 100m competition between the world’s top sprinters.
