Isabelle Weidemann

BIOGRAPHY

The Canadian record holder in the 5000m at both the junior and senior levels, Isabelle Weidemann has quickly established herself as one of Canada’s premier long-distance skater.

Weidemann first represented Canada at the 2014 and 2015 World Junior Championships, earning a fourth-place result in the 3000m in her second appearance. She made her World Cup debut that same year and participated the first World Championships of her career at the conclusion of the 2015-2016 season, where she finished an impressive fifth in the 5000m.

The Ottawa native earned her first World Cup medal during the 2017-2018 season and has reached the podium an impressive 17 times since then, including nine appearances as a member a resurgent Team Pursuit squad. She has also won a pair of World Championship medals in the Team Pursuit alongside Ivanie Blondin and Valérie Maltais, brining home bronze in 2020 and silver in 2021. In her Olympic debut at PyeongChang 2018, Weidemann finished fourth with the Team Pursuit and placed inside the top-seven in both the 3000m and 5000m.

Weidemann was named Speed Skating Canada’s long track Rising Star in 2015 and was awarded the Catriona Le May Doan Award for Female Long Track Athlete of the Year in 2019.
