Dartmouth welcomes skaters from across eastern Canada for Youth Short Track Championships

Nova Scotia successfully organizes first national-level short track event since 2013

DARTMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA – Dartmouth hosted over 100 skaters from five different provinces at last weekend’s 2026 Canadian Youth Short Track Championships East presented by Intact Insurance, which were held at the RBC Centre. It marked the first time since 2013 that a national championship level event was hosted in Nova Scotia.

The Canadian Youth Short Track Championships features skaters aged 11 to 13 and serves as an introduction for developing skaters to represent their province or territory on the national stage. The competition welcomed a total of 119 skaters from Quebec (55), Ontario (46), New Brunswick (9), Nova Scotia (7) and Prince Edward Island (2).

Participants kicked off the competition Friday with a Camp Day featuring on ice and off ice activities led by volunteer coaches. Skaters hit the ice Saturday and Sunday to compete for individual distance titles in the 400m, 800m, 1200m, 1500m and 1000m Super Final, while also taking part in a 2000m ability-based relay amongst all age groups.

Finishing the competition ranked atop their respective categories were Charlotte Kim (Ontario, 11 Female), Daisy Côté (Quebec, 12 Female) and Jianing Wang (Ontario, 13 Female), along with Nolan Proulx (Quebec, 11 Male), Samuel Poirier (Quebec, 12 Male) and Eliot Choquet (Quebec, 13 Male).

Quebec led the way with 38 medals, including 10 gold, 16 silver and 12 bronze. Ontario was the only other province to reach the podium, earning 16 medals, half of which were gold.
