The historic Pacific Coliseum – home to the expansion Vancouver Goldeneyes of the Professional Women’s Hockey League since 2025 – will host the first ISU Short Track World Tour stop of the season from October 23-25, marking the sport’s return to Vancouver for the first time since the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The city previously hosted a World Cup Short Track event in 2008, which served as the official test event for the Games, and it becomes the first Canadian location outside of Montreal to welcome a senior ISU Event in short track since Calgary in 2018.
It was over 16 years ago that British Columbians were treated to memorable podium performances from the likes of Charles Hamelin, François-Louis Tremblay and Marianne St-Gelais at Vancouver 2010. Starting this fall, a whole new generation of sports fans across the province will have the opportunity to experience the thrill of short track speed skating, as they cheer on the reigning ISU Crystal Globe winning Canadian Ice Maples led by Olympians Steven Dubois, William Dandjinou and Courtney Sarault.
Vancouver is no stranger to hosting successful major sporting events that support tourism, economic, and sport development, while leaving lasting social and community legacies. The city’s impressive sport hosting portfolio includes the annual HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, the 2025 Invictus Games, the 2023 Laver Cup tennis tournament, and the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championships. They will also host seven matches during this summer’s FIFA World Cup 2026.
Royce Chwin, President & CEO, Destination Vancouver“We’re proud to welcome the ISU Short Track World Tour to Vancouver, marking the return of world-class speed skating to a city with a deep Olympic legacy. Major international sporting events like this energize our city, drive visitation, and create unforgettable experiences for fans and athletes alike. We look forward to showcasing Vancouver on the global stage and inspiring the next generation of skaters.”
Following the season opener in Vancouver, the ISU Short Track World Tour will return to the Maurice Richard Arena in Montreal from October 30 to November 1, before embarking on five international stops across Asia and Europe.
Canada is also slated to host three long track speed skating events this coming season. The Centre de glaces Intact Assurance in Quebec City will welcome a pair of ISU Junior World Cup Speed Skating stops on November 28-29 and December 5-6, while the Olympic Oval in Calgary will be home to the world’s best athletes for the final ISU World Cup Speed Skating stop of the season from February 5-7.
Speed Skating Canada has built a reputation as a trusted event host for the ISU in recent years, partnering to welcome 18 international competitions to Canada (eleven in short track, seven in long track) over the last Olympic quadrennial, twice as many as any other country. The organization’s innovative approach to event hosting has also resulted in national recognition, with both the 2022 ISU World Short Track Championships in Montreal and 2024 ISU World Speed Skating Championships in Calgary named International Event of the Year at Sport Tourism Canada’s annual PRESTIGE Awards.
Nicole Wilkinson, Director, Business & Member Development, Speed Skating Canada“Speed Skating Canada is immensely proud of our world-class hosting reputation, shaped by decades of delivering exceptional events for the International Skating Union. We are excited to expand that hosting footprint by welcoming the world’s best short track skaters back to Vancouver this fall – an important milestone as we continue to grow speed skating nationally and globally. We are deeply grateful to our partners for supporting this ambitious vision to broaden our sport’s legacy from the 2010 Olympic Games. As always, we look forward to connecting with our passionate speed skating community and fans in Montreal, Quebec City, and Calgary again next season.”
