Call for Nominations: SSC Board of Directors

OTTAWA, ONTARIO - The Speed Skating Canada (SSC) 2020 Nominations Committee invites members to submit nominations for positions on the SSC Board of Directors. Elected members will have the opportunity to positively impact the Canadian speed skating community and the future of our sport across the country.

Following a recommendation made to the Branch Presidents, the Nominations Committee, is accepting nominations to the Board of Directors. There are three (3) Directors and the President whose terms are ending. All are seeking re-election and will be considered alongside any new candidate.

BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the SSC Board of Directors, elected members will take part in at least two face-to-face meetings per year, monthly teleconferences and occasional ad hoc meetings or teleconferences to address urgent or emerging issues. Board members also take part in email discussions and may act as a representative of SSC at special events or with other organizations.

NOMINATION PROCESS

To submit a nominee for consideration, members must complete the nomination form and submit it along with a summary (maximum two pages) of the candidate’s achievements and qualifications. 

The deadline for submitting nominations is June 5th, 2020.

SELECTION PROCESS

The 2020 Nominations Committee, chaired by SSC Board Director Denis Leclerc, will review the nominations submitted by members and will recommend candidates for approval by the membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Which will be held electronically at a date and time to be determined.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Nominations will be reviewed with an aim toward achieving a balance in geographic, skill set and gender representation within the Board of Directors. All nominees must be current members of SSC. Ideal candidates will also possess the following qualifications:

  • Skill set or area of expertise not currently represented on the Board
  • Proven leadership experience and abilities
  • Experience in governance and organizational development
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff, athletes, volunteers and a wide range of partners
