Speed Skating Canada is seeking a coach for its national short track team. Position: Assistant Coach of the National Short Track Team.

Job description:
The position of coach of the National Short Track Team is a full-time position based in Montreal. The coach is responsible for supporting the activities of Speed Skating Canada’s (SSC) national team and development team. In cooperation with the coaching team, the coach participates in preparing the annual training plan for SSC’s national team, particularly with respect to advancing training methods that are aimed at reaching the established performance objectives.

The coach will be responsible for supporting male athletes in order to create conditions that promote optimal performance, and to evaluate progress in relation to the goals established. The coach helps the coaching team prepare training sessions and conducts them both on ice and off. Domestic and International travel to competitions will be required.

The ideal candidate must:

• demonstrate an advanced level of technical skill in short track skating, allowing him or her to analyze each skater’s optimal biomechanical characteristics

• master the practice of preparing and adjusting blades and skates

• have significant experience in short track racing strategy and tactics

• show strong interest in teamwork and in working with multidisciplinary stakeholders

• demonstrate strong leadership among athletes

• have Level 3 certification, or equivalent, from the national coaching certification program

The candidate will have vision, energy, and enthusiasm, along with the desire to build a team while working within a team. Bilingualism is an asset.
Salary will be based on experience.
