Nominations Being Accepted for Speed Skating Canada’s 2019-2020 Awards Program

OTTAWA, ON - Members of the Canadian speed skating community have until May 22, 2020 to submit their nominations for the 2019-2020 Speed Skating Canada Awards Program. This year's winners will be treated to a VIP experience at an ISU World Cup in Montreal or Calgary.

The SSC Awards Program recognizes significant contributions and achievements by some of our sport’s most dedicated stakeholders – from athletes and coaches, to officials, volunteers and partners. The Program was revised last year to better align with our organization’s strategic priorities of Sport Excellence and Organizational Excellence. Many of the awards are now open to a broader group of nominees and a simplified nomination process means anyone can submit a name for consideration.

The following documents provide an overview of the available awards, along with details on the nomination process, eligibility, and selection criteria.

Nominations are being accepted for over a dozen different awards this year, including the Speed Skating Canada Hall of Fame and the Intact Insurance Club Excellence Award, which distributes grants to clubs undertaking grassroots initiatives that aligns with SSC’s strategic objectives.

Awards are typically presented during an Awards Gala at the SSC Congress, however given the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, SSC made the decision to cancel this event. As a result, this year’s award winners will be announced virtually during the summer and the awards themselves will be presented to recipients in-person during ceremonies at ISU World Cup events in Montreal and Calgary this upcoming season. Winners will be treated to a VIP experience at the World Cup closest to the city where they reside!
