Speed Skating Canada and Svante Launch ‘Save the Ice’ Climate Change Education Campaign

For every share of the campaign video featuring Olympian Gaétan Boucher, Svante will remove half a kilogram of CO₂ from the atmosphere

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Building on their recently announced partnership, Speed Skating Canada and Svante Technologies Inc. (Svante), a global leader in carbon capture and removal technology, are proud to announce a joint climate change awareness and education campaign, ‘Save the Ice’. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the impact of global warming on winter sports, including speed skating, and enables Canadians to make a personal impact on the climate.

“Climate change is not just a global issue—it’s deeply personal for athletes and communities whose lives revolve around winter sports. Through the ‘Save the Ice’ campaign, we’re excited to partner with Svante to raise awareness about the urgent need for climate action and to show Canadians how they can make a tangible impact. Together, we can help preserve the ice, the sport we love, and our planet for future generations.”

Ron Weiser, Board Chair, Speed Skating Canada

Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO₂) are driving global warming, causing ice and snow to disappear at alarming rates. Winter sports are under threat — once held outdoors, international long track competitions have been forced indoors due to unreliable ice conditions caused by a warming planet.

As part of the ‘Save the Ice’ campaign, for every share of a video featuring Olympian Gaétan Boucher, Svante will remove half a kilogram of CO₂ from the atmosphere via their partner Deep Sky, subject to certain terms and conditions.

“As someone who has experienced the thrill of competing on the ice and now works in the fight against climate change, this campaign holds special meaning for me. The ‘Save the Ice’ campaign highlights the reality that climate change is threatening the future of winter sports and our planet. By working together, we can take meaningful steps to preserve the sports and environments that inspire us all.”
