Canada has reached the World Cup podium 12 times across the first three stops of the season
HEERENVEEN, NETHERLANDS – Brooklyn McDougall, Béatrice Lamarche and Ivanie Blondin captured silver in the women’s Team Sprint to conclude the final day of World Cup racing in Heerenveen.
The Canadian trio posted a time of 1:26.05 in the first Team Sprint of the season, finishing the three lap race +0.87 seconds behind the gold medalists from the Netherlands (1:25.18). Poland, who skated alongside the Dutch in the final pairing, rounded out the podium in bronze medal position with a time of 1:26.65.
Béatrice Lamarche“I think it was a good race considering we did not practice or prepare during the week. It felt smooth and felt good. And it was a pretty fast time for us here as well.”
Sunday’s podium was identical to last season’s World Championship results, where McDougall (Calgary, Alta.), Lamarche (Quebec City, Que.) and Blondin (Ottawa, Ont.) also won silver. The Canadian women also finished the 2024-25 World Cup campaign ranked second overall thanks to a gold medal in Calgary and silver medal in Tomaszów Mazowiecki.
Blondin was the top individual distance skater on the final day of racing in the Netherlands, falling just short of the Mass Start podium with a fourth place finish (8:08.30) behind Ji-Woo Park of Korea (8:08.28), Mia Manganello of the United States (8:07.92), and Marijke Groenewoud of the Netherlands (8:07.66).
Meanwhile, sprinter Laurent Dubreuil (Lévis, Que.) was sixth in the men’s 500m, crossing the line with a time of 34.39 to earn his best result of the season so far.
The ISU World Cup Speed Skating season continues next weekend in Hamar, the final competition for Canada’s long track skaters to secure Olympic quota spots for Milano-Cortina 2026. All three days of racing will be live streamed on CBC Sports and Radio-Canada Sports digital platforms.
