Centre de glace Intact Assurance will welcome Canada’s best short and long track speed skaters from October 13-16

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC – Tickets are now on sale for a historic first! From October 13 to 16, the Canadian Speed Skating Championships presented by Intact Insurance will be combined for the first time ever! All of Canada’s speed skating stars – from both short track and long track – will gather at the newly opened Centre de glace Intact Assurance in Quebec City for this truly special competition.

Kim Boutin, Laurent Dubreuil, Steven Dubois, Valérie Maltais, Isabelle Weidemann and all their teammates, both on the 400m oval and on the 111m track, will be on hand to launch the 2022-2023 national season. They’ll be fighting for spots on the World Cup teams and looking to obtain important national ranking points.

The final list of participating skaters – which includes the top-40 men’s and women’s skaters in short track and the 20 to 30 fastest athletes per distance in long track – will be published next week.

“It’s exciting to get out of Montreal and come to Quebec for the Canadian Championships! I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere of a combined short track and long track competition! Usually, we meet in competition only at the Olympics, so this is a unique chance to start the season together!”

Kim Boutin

Tickets for the competition are on sale now at centredeglaces.ca. A variety of different ticketing options are available for both the short track and long track races, with single-day tickets starting at $10 each and 3-day weekend passes starting at $30 each.

“It will be the first time in my career that I’ll get to take part in a major event at home. I can’t wait to skate in front of my family and friends, especially my two children, Rose and Nathan! Come watch us compete, you’ll see that the sport is a lot faster in person than on television!”

Laurent Dubreuil

For those not able to attend in person, the weekend’s races will be live streamed by CBC Sports, Radio-Canada Sports and will also be available on Speed Skating Canada’s YouTube channel.
