Canada Names Long Track Speed Skating Team for Fall World Cups

16 skaters kick off international season with World Cup stops in Stavanger and Heerenveen

CALGARY, ALBERTA – Speed Skating Canada announces today the provisional composition of its long track teams for this fall’s ISU World Cup Speed Skating events, which includes a pair of competitions on home ice this December in Calgary.

Canada’s team for the first two World Cups in Norway and the Netherlands will be comprised of 16 skaters. Seven additional skaters will join the squad for the first of two consecutive World Cups in Calgary due to an increased quota for the host country, with one more added for the second home World Cup, bringing the total to 24 Canadian competitors.

ISU World Cup Speed Skating 1-2

Sixteen skaters have been provisionally selected to represent Canada at the first two ISU World Cup Speed Skating events of the season. The team will kick off the international campaign in Stavanger, Norway (November 11-13), before travelling to Heerenveen, Netherlands (November 18-20).

ISU World Cup Speed Skating 3-4

The Olympic Oval in Calgary will host back-to-back World Cups on December 9-11 and December 16-18. A total of 23 skaters are provisionally set to represent Canada on home ice during the first weekend, with one additional skater – Kaleb Muller – added to the team for the second weekend.

The team nominations were made in accordance with relevant High Performance Bulletins following the 2022 Canadian Long Track Championships presented by Intact Insurance, which were hosted this past weekend in Quebec City. It is important to note that the composition of these teams could potentially change should an appeal be submitted and accepted. Teams will not be made official until the appeal period has passed and a decision on those appeals – should any be received – has been made.
