Olympian Tricia Smith and Dr. Shaunna Taylor headline plenary sessions focusing on women in sport and mental health for sport leaders

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Speed Skating Canada has unveiled the list of presenters and keynote speakers for its inaugural Speed Summit, a professional development conference that will take place from June 8-10 in beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia.

Attendees will have the unique experience of learning from leaders within the Canadian amateur sport community during a series of educational and interactive workshops targeted to coaches, officials, and administrators.

External experts Nathalie Lambert (International Skating Union), Thomas Hall (Canadian Olympic Committee) and Joel Mineau (Balboa Sport) will present alongside over a dozen others, including Speed Skating Canada national program coaches Bart Schouten, Sébastien Cros and Olivier Jean, equipment gurus Laurent Daignault and Reece Williamson Derraugh, as well as veteran technical expert Robert Tremblay and international official Stuart Gibbs.

Delegates from every segment of the speed skating community will also gather for a pair of insightful plenary sessions on topics of increasing importance within our sport.

  • Women in Sport: Hear from a panel of leading women in sport – including four-time Olympian and Canadian Olympic Committee president Tricia Smith – about their experiences in an evolving landscape, their commitment to paving the way for girls and young women, and their goals for our industry.
  • Mental Health for Sport Leaders: Mental performance specialist Dr. Shaunna Taylor will lead a session that covers why it is important for sport leaders to prioritize self-care and their own mental health so they can make a meaningful impact and help those around them achieve success.

Registration 

Registration for the inaugural edition of the Speed Summit closes on Monday, May 15. Attendees will be provided with four workshops, three social activities and two plenary sessions, as well breakfast, lunch, and local transportation. Participants will be able to select the workshops and social activities they wish to attend during the registration process. 

Accommodations

Attendees have until Wednesday, May 10 to take advantage of the group booking rate of $219 + Tax per night at the Four Points by Sheraton Kelowna Airport, the official hotel for Speed Summit. Meetings and workshops will take place at the Four Points by Sheraton Kelowna Airport and Hampton Inn & Suites Kelowna Airport, which are located on the same property.
