MyVeloFit helps Canada’s top speed skaters find an optimal riding position for off-season training

Partnership with Speed Skating Canada makes AI-powered bike fitting accessible to speed skaters across the country

MONTREAL, QUEBEC – With the off-season now in full-swing, members of Canada’s national short track speed skating team were treated to a professional bike fitting session from MyVeloFit, intended to help them get the most out of this important off-ice training activity.

A partner of Speed Skating Canada since November 2023, MyVeloFit brings together advances in AI-based video analysis with the knowledge of top-level bike fitters to deliver a service that puts the power of personalized bike fitting and sizing in the palm of every rider’s hand. Using any mobile device, cyclists can get personalized advice on which bike size fits them best, as well as how they can make adjustments to their riding position to ensure an optimal fit.

“We were in Montreal last week to fit some of the short track skaters on their bikes, dialing their riding position in to get them more comfortable. We used the MyVeloFit AI to analyze the riders’ positions and help guide the recommendations on what adjustments we can make to improve things and reduce back, neck and knee pain that sometimes shows up after those longer rides. We had a few riders who were having trouble with their seat, and we were able to adjust a few different things – like seat angle, seat height or even the type of saddle – to help improve their comfort and allow them to train longer and perform better.”

For National Team member Claudia Gagnon, the recommendations coming out of her custom fitting process helped make her bike more comfortable and eliminate the back and knee pain that she would sometimes feel during longer rides.

“The fitting process went really well. They were super receptive and attentive to my needs, before guiding me as they changed certain things on my bike. They moved my seat forward so that I was more comfortable with my handlebars and my back was less bent over. They also adjusted the grips of my handlebars so that my arms were less wide. I have already ridden my bike twice since the fitting and I really see a difference in my position and comfort.”

A number of other National Program skaters from the training centres in Montreal, Calgary and Quebec City have utilized the MyVeloFit app to guide them through a virtual bike fitting. In addition to complementary access to the platform, these high-performance athletes also receive online support from an expert bike fitter to help them find their ideal fit.

The partnership benefits also extend down to Speed Skating Canada’s entire membership base, providing skaters, coaches, officials and volunteers across the country with a 20% discount on both Enthusiast and Pro plans subscriptions to the MyVeloFit app.

With the off-season now upon us and warmer weather in the forecast, we’re encouraging members of the Canadian speed skating community to take advantage of this exciting partnership. Members can contact their PTSO to receive their discount code before signing up.
