28 skaters representing three provinces earn spots to train with Canada’s national program next season
MONTREAL, QUEBEC – Speed Skating Canada is proud to unveil the skaters that have been selected to its National and NextGen short track teams for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
A total of 28 skaters representing three provinces earned a spot on their respective teams based on their national and international results from last season. The team selections were made in accordance with eligibility and selection criteria outlined in the relevant High Performance Bulletins.
As members of the National Program, these athletes will train full-time at the Maurice Richard Areana in Montreal under the guidance of a world-class coaching and support staff. Athletes will have access to an Integrated Support Team based out of the Institut national du sport du Québec, experts in sport science, exercise and medicine who will ensure that they are healthy, fit and psychologically ready for optimal performance both on and off the ice.

The National Program has also selected ten athletes to train alongside the National and NextGen groups this coming season. Cynthia Mascitto (QC), Jérôme Courtemanche (QC) and Antoine Gagnon-Lamarche (QC) will skate with the Women’s National Team; Alexis Bélanger (QC), William Sohier (QC) and Thomas Simpkin (QC) will practice with the Men’s NextGen Team; and Karina Montminy (QC), Wren Acorn (NT), Nicolas Perreault (QC) and Anne-Clara Belley (QC) with the Women’s NextGen Team.
The national short track season gets underway this fall with the 2023 Canadian Short Track Championships presented by Intact Insurance, which are scheduled for September 29 to October 1 at the Maurice-Richard Arena in Montreal.
Canada is also slated to host three international short track competitions during the 2023-24 season, including back-to-back ISU World Cup Short Track stops in Montreal from October 20-22 and 27-29, followed by the ISU Four Continents Championships in Laval from November 3-5.
