Speed Skating Canada recruiting volunteers for working groups, advisory councils

Volunteers wanted to advise on High Performance; Sport Development; and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Speed Skating Canada is looking for dedicated and passionate volunteers to bring their unique perspectives and experience to several advisory groups that contribute to our mission to build a fun, safe and inclusive speed skating community across Canada that empowers everyone to grow strong and healthy.

A national recruitment campaign has been launched to fill vacancies on several working groups and advisory councils, including the newly created Equity Diversity and Inclusion Working Group, which will support the development of an EDI Strategy and work to advance the sport’s progress in developing an equitable, diverse, and inclusive community.

An overview of each group’s mandate and responsibilities, as well as the desired skillsets of its members, can be found below. Members of the speed skating community who might be a good fit are encouraged to apply using the nomination forms linked below each section.

Equity Diversity and Inclusion Working Group

The Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Working Group (EDIWG) supports SSC staff in operational decision making related to the area of equity, diversity and inclusion through consultation and engagement. EDIWG members will provide guidance and feedback on the scope, objectives and implementation of a national Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, which will include defining specific actions and measurable objectives for SSC to consider in advancing the sport’s progress in developing an equitable, diverse, and inclusive community. There are approximately 10 positions available on the EDIWG.

Sport Development Advisory Council

The Sport Development Advisory Council (SDAC) support SSC staff in operational decision making related to the area of sport development and sport pathway through consultation and engagement. There is a minimum of 2 positions available on the SDAC.

High Performance Advisory Council – Long Track

The High Performance Advisory Council – Long Track (HPAC-LT) support SSC staff by providing recommendations and advice concerning the selection processes of Speed Skating Canada’s long track National Program. There is 1 position available on the HPAC-LT.
