Vincent De Haître

BIOGRAPHY

A two-sport athlete from the Ottawa area, Vincent De Haître is one of the rare athletes to have represented Canada at both the summer and winter Olympics.

On the ice, De Haître has been a member of the long track national team since the 2013-2014 season, the year he made his World Cup debut. He has won 14 medals on the circuit over the course of his career, including nine as a member of the Team Sprint. He was crowned vice-champion in the 1000m at he 2017 World Championships, one of only six Canadian men to reach the podium in that distance. He has made his Olympic debut at Sochi 2014, where he finished 20th in the 1000m and 33rd in the 1500m. He skated those same distances at PyeongChang 2018, earning 19th and 21st place results, respective.

De Haître competed in his first major international track cycling event in 2014 – the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow – where he finished fourth in the Team Sprint and seventh in the 1000m time trial. While he raced in a handful of domestic competitions during his speed skating off-seasons, he officially made the switch to cycling after PyeongChang 2018. He made his UCI World Cup debut later that year and has gone on to compete at various Pan Am Championships and World Championships since. He will make his summer Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, where he will take part in the Team Pursuit.

De Haître was named Speed Skating Canada’s long track Rising Star in 2014 and won the Jeremy Wotherspoon Award for Male Long Track Athlete of the Year in 2017.
